August 25, 2015By No Limit BoråsPressrelease

No Limit Street Art Borås is set to September 3-6th. Though the first artist already arrived and from August 30th artists arrive almost daily. From September 1st you can see work in progress on most spots and walls in Borås.

First arriving artist was Canadian Laurence Vallières and she made a fast start in the Orangery in central Borås, Sunday 23rd.

– I´m truly happy to finally meet all our artists in person and to judge from the response to our wall releases there´s a huge audience looking forward to see the participating artists work in progress and the final pieces. With faboulus artists bringing a wide spread of different styles of street art together with truly epic walls and spots I guess it could be nothing but a success this year, says curator Shai Dahan.

– Right now we´re preparing the walls around the city, finishing the last details about colours, lifts and all other stuff that runs the festival behind the scenes. It´s a lot of things that really isn´t visible in the end but is of high importance to make the artists stay in Borås a pleasent experience and in the end the best thinkable festival for the audience. It begins now and in a week most artists is in the middle of the creating process – so looking forward to that and to meet them all, says project manager, Stina Hallhagen.

International contemporary and public art photographer Henrik Haven is set to cover No Limit Borås

August 17, 2015By No Limit BoråsPressrelease

Henrik Haven, based in Copenhagen, Denmark is a very appreciated photographer specialized in documenting contemporary and public art both from gallery exhibitions, large scale public art projects and studio visits. His photos are published in the leading magazines, blogs and social networking sites all over the world. Now Henrik sets down in Borås during No Limit Street Art to cover and document the festival.

– Henrik has been an integral addition to No Limit just as much as each of our artists. His talent and expertise as a photographer is as unique as each of the participating artists and equally respected. While there is no doubt people from all over the world will see the murals completed here, it is really Henrik’s eye to capture it in the right way that can make the difference between seeing a mural and telling the story. We want people to see the entire feeling and timeline of our festival and he is surely the person to capture it in that way, says curator Shai Dahan.

– For now the paintings from No Limit will remain for several years to come, but that itself doesn´t give the opportunity for all to see them. A comprehensive documentation does that and therefor we´re very happy that Henrik will shoot for No Limit this year, says project manager Stina Hallhagen.

No Limit 2015 will offer everything from large scale murals, small wooden figurines and stencil art to chalk paint. The festival of 2014 got a lot of media coverage both in national and international online and printed media. No Limit Street Art Borås is now also part of Google Cultural Institute.

Brooklyn Street Art to cover No Limit Borås

August 12, 2015By No Limit BoråsPressrelease

Last year Steven P. Harrington and Jaime Rojo of Brooklyn Street Art curiously followed Swedens new street art festival No Limit via online- and social media. They liked what they saw and posted a blog, ending up as an article in the online version of Huffington Post. This year they both will be following the festival on spot in Borås.

– It’s important to support a nascent art festival that shows such promise in the urban art community and it’s good to see the city supporting public art and making an investment in its cultural richness, says Harrington.

– We have seen Shai’s passion and dedication to giving artists opportunities and sparking conversations that otherwise wouldn’t happen. Mural festivals like No Limit promotes cultural exchange and make art available to a wider audience – in a way that more established art institutions typically can’t, says Rojo.

Steven P. Harrington and Jaime Rojo are the Founders of the influential art blog BrooklynStreetArt.com. Proud New Yorkers, artists, and cultural workers for more than twenty-five years, both are experts on the evolving Street Art scene in New York as well as globally. With daily postings on Brooklyn Street Art (BSA), 175 articles on The Huffington Post, and close to one half a million followers on their social media network, the two have shown and discussed Street Art, graffiti, murals, and public art in more than 100 cities over the last few years.

No Limit 2015 will offer everything from large scale murals, small wooden figurines and stencil art to chalk paint. The festival of 2014 got a lot of media coverage both in national and international online and printed media. No Limit Street Art Borås is now also part of Google Cultural Institute.

Local Inside out during No Limit Street Art Borås

June 12, 2015By No Limit BoråsPressrelease, Uncategorized

Inside out is a global street art project initiated by the French artist JR. The project transforms human identity into art. Vigorously simplified, large photos of people gathered into a gigantic mosaic of images in the town scape.

The event in Borås is a so called ”group action” – a specific local happening, independent but approved by the Inside Out-project. People in and from Borås are photographed and during the No Limit Street Art festival photos are mounted to a mosaic somewhere in the city under the watchword ”We see you”.

– Inside out is a really exciting project with an important message that has gained a lot of attention and proliferation globally. We are happy to include a local version during No Limit. It creates a symbiosis between local anchoring and commitment with the international street art scene in a very positive way, says Stina Hallhagen, project manager of No Limit Street Art.

– With “We see you” our aim is to create a piece of art together with the people of Borås, a piece where its us, the inhabitants of Borås in focus. Through the tales of people we reveal each other. About every fourth of the inhabitants of Borås has parents that are born in another country or are born in another country themselves. This are experiences that are not shown enough today. We want to rupture the myth that you must have a textile worker or a peddler in the family to call be a ”real” inhabitant of Borås, says Elin Stavåsen Brokvist, ”We see you”.

ABOUT THE INSIDE OUT PROJECT
Inside Out is a large-scale participatory art project that transforms messages of personal identity into pieces of artistic work. Everyone is challenged to use black and white photographic portraits to discover, reveal and share the untold stories and images of people around the world. These digitally uploaded images are made into posters and sent back to the projectʼs co-creators, for them to exhibit in their own communities. Posters can be placed anywhere, from a solitary image in an office window, to a wall of an abandoned building, or in a full stadium. These exhibitions will be documented, archived and be made available online at http://www.insideoutproject.net/. The INSIDE OUT project is a creation of the artist JR, recipient of the 2011 TED Prize (watch JR’s TED talk here).

ABOUT THE TED PRIZE
The TED Prize is awarded annually to an exceptional individual who receives $1,000,000 and the TED community’s resources and expertise to spark global change. The award is held every three years and points out good examples of architecture and urban development. in the town of Borås.

When we started working with No Limit I guess none of us could imagine that it would lead to such a recognition and a prize for urban and landscape development. –       Besides that many people love the art that was created during No Limit, this perhaps is the finest review a street art festival could get. It really shows what art in public spaces can achieve. The magic of Tristan Eaton to No Limit Borås

April 26, 2015By No Limit BoråsPressrelease

Born in Los Angeles in 1978, Tristan began pursuing street art as a teenager, painting everything from walls to billboards in the urban landscape wherever he lived, including London, Detroit and Brooklyn. After growing up on comic books, graffiti and skateboard culture, Tristan designed his first toy for Fisher Price at 18 years old and began working as an artist full-time.

– Tristan´s got a stunning style and is one of the most versatile artists that I know. He masters everything from mural art, graphic-, logo- and packaging design to sculptures and the conformation of toys. That is quite an amazing range of creativity. I´m convinced that what Tristan creates for No Limit will be appreciated by a lot of people, says curator Shai Dahan.

– Tristan´s manner really amazes me. The mixture of black&white with colours, lettering and the comic book styled characters really brings life and depth to his paintings. The line up for 2015 festival feels really top notch and I know that a lot of street art fans have been looking forward to see Tristan in Sweden, says project manager Stina Hallhagen.

Shortly after studying at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, Tristan founded Thunderdog Studios, of which he was the President and Creative Director for 10 years. Thunderdog Studios regularly designs and consults for clients such as Nike, Disney and Barack Obama on projects that span the globe across all mediums. In 2012, Tristan moved back to his childhood home of Los Angeles to pursue his paintings and large scale mural projects full-time. Tristan’s work can be seen in galleries around the world and in the permanent collection of the New York Museum of Modern Art (MOMA).

Logan Hicks brings advanced stencil art to No Limit Borås

April 19, 2015By No Limit BoråsPressrelease

Logan Hicks is a New York-based artist known for his photorealistic stenciled paintings. Studying at the Maryland Institute of Contemporary Art in the early 1990s, Hicks cut his teeth as a successful screen printer, before being inspired to branch into stencils. Hicks moved to California to align with the Low Brow movement of the 90s, and concentrate on his fine art stencil work. Hicks relocated to Brooklyn in 2007 to continue his fine art.

– Logan´s got an amazing art style. His photorealistic pieces are created with a stencil technique he has taken to perfection. Most people seeing his work for the first time supposes that it´s a printed photo rather than a stencil piece. As Logan is a great artist and we haven´t had a stencil artist before I´m really happy to have him in our line up for 2015, says curator Shai Dahan.

– I really like that we could add yet another form of street art. We´ve got a great mix and the line up for this years artists is crowned by a real stencil king in Hicks. I´ve seen a lot of his pieces in photos but so looking forward to see work in progress in Borås. I´m totally convinced that Hicks will be admired by many during this years festival, says project manager Stina Hallhagen.

Called a painter with a photographer’s eye, Hicks’ work has largely focused on the perception of the environment, at times humanizing its architectural angles and structures, and at others using its vastness to explore self identity. Hicks’ mastery has gained him world wide respect, and given the artist opportunity to create large scale murals in Istanbul, Miami, Baltimore, New York, Tunisia, Paris and beyond.
